In 2024 the Widows Sons celebrated its 20th anniversary in the England. The Widows Sons locally, nationally and globally are constantly growing in numbers with now an estimated 180,000 members worldwide including Canada, America, multiple countries in Europe, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand.
In England there are over 1200 members across 46 chapters of which we now have 52 patched members 17 bad pennys in our chapter. Nationally over £450,000 has been donated to local and national causes in just the last 4 years.
In the background we have been developing our relations nationally with UGLE and locally with the Province of Cheshire which is shown by our authorised usage of the UGLE charter mark and the provincial crest on our new chapter website.
We have also been busy improving the back office with the adoption of the working tools secretarial software for membership and chapter management as well as promoting our new website and Instagram social media account.
We also appear regularly on the provincial social media pages. Any eagle eyed brethren will also spot us on the new Province of Cheshire website. So what we are doing is working Brethren!
I would like to say a huge thanks from the chapter for the support over the last 13 months, the exec who does a fantastic job in the background and Big H and Cridosi as past presidents for the guidance.
This year has been a very successful year for us with regards to charitable giving, some of the charities and initiatives we have supported are:
Francis House End of Life Hospice
Bebington Scouts
Mark Masons
Wallasey Masonic Hall
Doc Bikes
4th Rock Ferry Guides
Distinguished Gentleman's Ride
Hoylake Christmas lights
The Hoylake and West Kirby Sea Cadets
Pilgrims welfare donation
Provincial, Royal Arch and Mark Mason Toy Appeal
Tessa Jowell Foundation
Northwest Chapter - Fireball Run
Arrowpark Childrens Ward Christmas toy run
Our charitable giving for 2024 has been the most ever with a total of £4690 being donated. This amount takes us to over £21,000 since 2018.
A final note
I would like to thank all the members who have taken an officer position, especially our New Vice President Oddjobt takes a lot of time commitment when holding any masonic office. The chapter could not function or achieve what it does without you.
The Bad Pennies also deserve a mention. Our associate group plays a pivotal role in the success of the chapter, whether this be family and friends supporting our activities or as the first step for a Freemason to request to join the Widows Sons. Either way the success of the group is propped up by them. So a huge thanks.
